X ring seals are commonly used seals in hydraulic cylinders. They are typical lip seals that can achieve good sealing effects whether used for pistons or piston rods. x rings only rely on the interference deformation of the lips to produce sealing under low pressure. Due to the small contact area, the friction is relatively low. As the pressure increases, the elastic deformation of the lips increases, and the tensile, compressive and bending stresses increase. The radial clamping force of the star-shaped ring automatically increases, and the length of contact with the sealing surface continues to increase until the entire axial length of the star-shaped ring contacts the sealing surface, thereby ensuring good sealing under high pressure.
Engineering advantages of cross-sectional design
Unlike traditional O-rings, x rings (also called four-rings or x ring seals) use a four-lip geometry to form a double sealing area. This innovative structure has the following advantages:
Friction is 30% lower than standard elastomers; service life is extended by 500% in dynamic applications; performance is stable within the pressure range of 0.1-40MPa; and excellent anti-extrusion performance in high-pressure hydraulic systems.
Materials used for our x rings:
Nitrile rubber (NBR): A cost-effective solution for petroleum-based fluids (-40°C~125°C).
Fluororubber (FKM): Corrosion-resistant, suitable for corrosive media
(-20°C~250°C).
