Why a Newly Installed Oil Seal May Still Show Leakage?

It can be surprising to install a new oil seal and notice leakage again, but the cause is often related to the machine’s condition rather than the seal itself. At DEDE SEAL, we describe it as a mismatch between the seal and the environment it’s placed into.

A worn shaft surface is one of the usual reasons. When the shaft carries an old wear mark or a shallow groove, the new lip tends to settle into that track. The seal is new, but the surface it works against hasn’t changed, so the same leakage pattern can return.

Installation can also influence the result. If the seal is pressed in slightly off‑center or the lip is touched during assembly, the sealing edge may not sit comfortably. Many machines have narrow spaces, and a small tilt can affect how the lip forms its oil film.

Sometimes the environment plays a role. Temperature shifts, a different lubricant, or pressure variations can affect how the rubber responds. If the material doesn’t match the actual conditions, the seal may struggle to stay consistent even though it fits perfectly.
